Connect Garmin, sync both ways.

Link your Garmin Connect account once and it works both ways: your completed rides sync to WattsUp automatically, and workouts from your training plan go straight to your Garmin device.

WattsUp connects to Garmin Connect both ways. Workouts from your training plan go to your Garmin device, and your completed rides come back to WattsUp automatically, so your coach works from what you actually rode.

Five steps to connect, and one more to send your first week of workouts.

How to connect

01

Open Settings

Open the WattsUp app and tap 'Settings', the last tab in the tab bar.

02

Open Garmin Connect

Under Connections, tap 'Garmin Connect™'. Until you've linked your account, the row says 'Connect'.

03

Tap Connect

Tap 'Connect to Garmin Connect™'. A sheet explains what happens next: tap 'Continue to Garmin Connect™' to open Garmin's sign-in page in your browser.

04

Sign in and allow access

Sign in to your Garmin account and agree to connect WattsUp. On Garmin's permissions page, turn on 'Historical Data'. It's off by default, and without it WattsUp can't import your past rides. You then come straight back to the app.

05

Let your rides come in

Back in WattsUp, the Garmin Connect™ page says 'Connected' and your recent rides start importing. A banner shows them as they arrive, which can take a few minutes. From then on, every new ride syncs on its own once it reaches Garmin Connect.

06

Send workouts to your Garmin

Once your training plan is running, open the Train tab and tap 'Sync your workouts' under your plan. Pick a week under 'WEEK'. If you've connected Wahoo too, make sure Garmin is selected under 'SYNC TO'. Then tap the sync button, for example 'Sync Week 1 to Garmin'.

Important notes

What to expect once your Garmin account is connected.

01

— Rides sync back

Once a ride reaches Garmin Connect, it shows up in WattsUp within a few minutes, with its power, heart rate and training load. Your coach uses it for feedback and to adapt your plan.

Automatic
02

— Your ride history

Connecting also imports your recent rides, so your coach starts from your actual training history instead of a blank slate. The import only works with 'Historical Data' turned on in Garmin's permissions.

03

— Connected before ride sync?

If you linked Garmin before automatic ride sync existed, the Garmin Connect™ page shows 'Reconnect to enable ride sync'. Tap 'Reconnect Garmin' and allow activity access, and new rides will import automatically.

04

— Sent workouts stay on Garmin

When your plan changes, sync the week again: WattsUp replaces the workouts it sent before with the updated versions. Workouts you removed from your plan stay on Garmin until you delete them in Garmin Connect, so syncing one week at a time keeps stale sessions off your device.

— Syncing to your Garmin device

After WattsUp sends workouts to your Garmin account, sync your device with the Garmin Connect app to load them. See Garmin's official guide for instructions.

Four tips

1.

Synced rides show on the Train tab under the day you rode, and in the calendar behind the calendar icon at the top of the Train tab.

2.

You can also ask your coach in the Coach tab to sync a week of workouts for you.

3.

You can limit detailed ride analysis in Settings → Privacy & Security. The Privacy Policy explains exactly how Garmin data is used.

4.

You can disconnect any time from the Garmin Connect™ page in Settings → Connections, and choose to delete the rides it synced.
